Don’t be one of those people who ignore the existence of plus size activewear designed just for their body type, bemoaning that they don’t look like a magazine cover yet never getting any exercise! All bodies need regular exercise, and all bodies need to be able to exercise in comfort. That means getting clothing that works well for your body. If you’re a plus size woman, you need clothing for plus size women! And the same goes for fellows, too. Once you find the right clothing to fit your body’s needs, you may be surprised at how much easier exercise is, and how much more enjoyable it is to lead an active lifestyle.
To start with a concern particular to women only (for the most part), there’s the bra. Proper bra support becomes more crucial the larger your chest is, and physical exertion only highlights this support or the lack of it. So plus size women have it particularly rough in that area, but they’re not without hope. Activewear for plus size women includes a variety of sports bras designed especially for the particularly well-endowed. You may have to pay a bit more to get the support your breasts need while jogging… but ask yourself this, would you rather pay in cash for comfort, or pay in pain for not having the support your body needs? While some hunting around may be necessary, there are specialty companies producing bras to fit any size of chest these days.
Another concern for women is the difficulty in maintaining a healthy lifestyle while pregnant. Thankfully, plus size maternity activewear is readily available, and can often be had entirely for free if you’re willing to wear the used clothes of a mother no longer expecting further children. This can’t, of course, remove the troubles of moving around with all that extra weight, but properly-fitted clothes will work wonders for minimizing the inconveniences of pregnancy and allow you to look great both during and after pregnancy. And since pregnancy lasts only a little short of a year, keeping fit during that time instead of slacking off is the best for you… and the baby!
More universally, there is plus size athletic wear intended for the use of either gender as well. For instance, consider the ever-popular sweatshirts and sweatpants. While effective, they may not be quite fashionable enough for your preferences. You might consider something like yoga stretch pants, which are just as flexible as sweatpants while being a lot better-looking. And, of course, hoodies are generally easy to find in plus sizes for those who need them, and also a good way to keep the head warm and dry during winter or rainy seasons.
Once you’ve figured out the majority of your wardrobe, you’re ready for the final component of plus size sportswear: the shoe. Find something comfortable and well-fitting that provides support over a long run. You may have to order something especially for your foot size, but it’s worth it to be able to jog without your feet barking!
