Wearing the right plus size sports bra during your work out is an essential not only for your comfort, but also for the effectiveness of your workout. A bra that does not fit you properly will only create hindrances – anything too loose will give you too much bounce, and anything too tight will suffocate and make you feel short of breath. Here’s how to choose the right plus size sports bra:
- Stand in front of a mirror and measure :
i) Your band size. This is the measurement of your rib cage right under the breasts. Whatever the measurement is, add five inches to it. If it is an even number, this is your band size. If it’s odd, add another inch to get your band size.
ii) Your cup size. You get this by measuring your bust where they are the fullest and then subtracting your band size from it. If there is a difference of one inch, you are an A cup; two inches and you’re a B cup, and so on.
So now your bra size will be a combination of your band size and cup size. For example, 32D , where 32 is your band size and D is your cup size.
- Generally, the rule of thumb is to use a compression bra if you are an A or B cup, and an encapsulation bra for cup sizes bigger than that.
- Needless of that, try on as many different styles of plus size sports bras as you need to. Here are a few common problems you should look out for when doing this:
i) To prevent chafing in a plus sized sports bra opt out of a hundred percent cotton. In a cotton bra, once you start sweating, the bra just keeps getting wetter – resulting in chafing and rashes. Go for Coolmax or Drift instead.
ii) If you are large busted, look for bras with wider shoulder and back straps. These will give you additional support.
iii) To further prevent chafing, make sure the fabric of the plus size sport bra is seamless.
iv) If you like underwire, check to see if the underwire is completely covered by the fabric. This will further prevent rashes and chafing.
- Take your time trying the bras on. Jump a bit and lean over to check the support of the plus size bra.
- It is advisable to replace your sports bras after every seventy two washes.
- If you are buying bras online, make sure the store has a return or exchange policy so you can avail these in case of getting the wrong size.
